Hello! Welcome to my first blog post. (Finally, you’re probably all thinking. It’s only been, what? 2 years?). I thought I’d tell you all a little bit about myself. Some of these facts will be boring, because let’s face it I don’t exactly have the most exciting life on the planet. But, hopefully you find at least a couple of them interesting and a couple of you might even wanna read on. Let’s get started, shall we? Here are 10 facts about me:
1: I have a thyroid disorder.
I have something called hypothyroidism, which basically means my thyroid doesn’t make enough hormones on its own. I don’t know what exactly is causing mine, but causes include (but are not limited to) Hashimoto’s disease, thyroiditis and even certain medications. I also have iron deficiency anaemia, so I’m exhausted sometimes. I’m on medication for both conditions, though, so the exhausted days are few and far between.
2: I’m a massive foodie.
I can literally eat just about any vegetarian product and guaranteed I’ll love it. However, I would never eat meat, fish or gelatine. Which leads me to…
3: I’m vegetarian.
I’ve been vegetarian since I was around 15 and honestly? I’ve never looked back. I went vegetarian because I watched a certain documentary in class (if you know, you know) and that was all that flashed through my brain whenever I ate a meat or fish product. I still remember what most of them taste like, though, thanks to tasting them whenever I hear or see certain words. Which leads me to my next fact about myself.
4: I have synesthesia.
The type (or main type, I guess) I have is called lexical-gustatory synesthesia. It basically means that at some point multiple wires crossed in my brain and I can taste words. So if I avoid specific words in my writing, you know why. It’s because they have a disgusting taste to them. Although, sometimes I can’t avoid those words unfortunately and it makes me feel sick. It’s not JUST taste, some words have smells, textures or sensations attached to them. The majority of words it is taste, though. If you want a full blog on my experience with it, let me know. Also if you have any questions, comment them and I’ll do my best to answer them.
5: I’m left-handed.
Yup, I’m a southpaw. Yes, that means every time I use a gel pen I get frustrated because half of the ink ends up on my hand and every single word that I’ve JUST written is smudged to the point that I have to double check my glasses haven’t fallen off of my face.
6: I’ve had the writing bug since I was 6 years old.
I can remember it clearly. I was in class at primary school and my teacher gave us homework where we had to finish a story that had already been partially written for us. My mind raced with ideas and I’ve written my own ever since. Thankfully, I’ve improved a lot since my early days. I mostly write crime fiction these days, but I still dabble in romance, horror and occasionally sci-fi and fantasy.
7: I’m a massive crime fiction junkie.
That’s right! I don’t just write crime fiction, I LOVE to read it too. Val McDermid and Lee Child are two of my favourite authors of crime fiction. Although lately I’ve loved reading romance novels too, because…
8: I’m a hopeless romantic.
Anything remotely romantic makes me all warm and happy inside. Fireworks, fairy lights and sunsets are my absolute weakness.
9: I’m a traveller at heart.
Ever since I was a little kid I’ve always loved to travel and go on drives. My favourite place by far though is Italy. I’m in love with Italy, if I could move there I would in a heartbeat.
10: You’ll always find me at the beach.
Ever need to talk to me but can’t find me? I’ll probably be at my local beach either walking along it or sitting in my car gazing out at the ocean. It’s my favourite thing to do, watching the waves crash off the rocks, the people on the beach laughing and playing. Especially when I need to calm myself down.
So, there you have it. 10 facts about me. Sorry it’s so late, I procrastinated it like I always do with everything (BONUS FACT: I procrastinate like it’s my full time job. I don’t mean to, it just happens no matter how hard I try not to). Stick around, I’ll be posting things like challenges, travel blogs, cooking wins and fails, reviews on things I find interesting and so much more. I can’t promise it’ll be every single day, because like I said I don’t have a very exciting life, but I’ll try to post at least once or twice a month. Until I find my footing and figure out how to work this website, then it might bump up to once a week. I hope you enjoyed my first ever blog, and I hope to see you in the next one. Bye!
